Month: December 2012

Meal Plan Monday – 17 December 2012

It’s that time again. This time next week I will be preparing my Christmas dinner and heading up to my mother in laws for our Christmas Eve gathering.
And best of all my little Pops will be up ๐Ÿ™‚ so so excited for that.

Going to have a fairly easy week and have looked through the freezer as need space for all the festive food we will be getting in.

The hairy dieters easy crispy chicken. This is a favourite in our house and so easy to make.

Smoke haddock kedgeree
Still haven’t gotten round to making this but desperate to try it. Will definitely make time to have this

Homemade meatballs
These are fab and fall in my Slimming World plan

Chilli salad bowls
Another favourite from the hairy dieters

Cajun chicken and wedges
Again from hairy dieters, not tried this yet but looking forward to it

The Mr is away on his Christmas night out which leaves me, wine and a takeaway in peace

My little Pops will be up so going to have a hearty steak pie, tatties and veg

Confessions of A Mad Mummy

We have had a horrendous time, this last week. All of us have been under the weather with every bug going (or so it felt!). 1 down with man flu, 1 down with the cold, 1 down with the cold and diarrhoea and myself with a throat infection.
Today with everyone on the mend, and hyper as a monster with a bellyful of sugar, mummy is starting to go a little mad.

We have tried our hands at everything I could think of today to tire the little monsters out, from baking to drawing, to jigsaws and on and on. And nothing’s working. Aaaarrggghh.
The only thing I have left is juniors swimming lesson this afternoon, I’m hoping that this tires the little buggar out.

With all the fighting, running , jumping going on today, I have not had a minutes peace to myself (not good as I’m still fighting off this blasted throat infection).
So, what’s a mummy to do?
Well, I started off trying to move to a different room from the monsters just even for 5 mins. Nope. Didn’t work. Within 2 minutes I had one coming in telling me “she won’t share” or “he pushed me”.
So I moved to the bathroom, again didn’t last long before they found my hidey hole (the bath with the shower curtain pulled).
I had one last resort, the Mr’s shed. I say shed, it’s huge. Think just a little bigger than the size of an average sized living room, perfect for hiding (we have a fridge in there full of beer, wine, etc) shame the Mr wasn’t about as I could have quite happily stayed in there.
I thought just 5 minutes in here will do. We also have a tumble dryer in here so could at least check on that.
And it’s like the little devils can read my mind, as they followed me around and watched me put my shoes on.

“Mummy is just checking the clothes are drying”
“Ok mummy we will help”

Cue smiley faces and shoes going on.

And we ended up playing in the garden with the snow falling. It was great and in the moment I felt a little bad at my previous intentions to run and hide from them :/
At this point we were all smiles and laughter.

Do you have a hidey hole from your monsters? Or is it just me?

Runny Noses, Festive Films and Homemade Soup

This week myself and my monsters have been unwell. Each of us to a different degree.
I have a killer sore throat and would do/try anything to get rid of it.
The Mr has sore skin, sore head, basically a sore everything.
The monsters have got bad colds and even worse runny noses!
So all in all we are a cranky house at the minute. Even the run up to Christmas isn’t cheering us up.

While the Mr has to go to work (bless his wee work boots) we had a huge duvet day on the couch. Filled with Christmas films such as Arthur Christmas, the flight of the reindeer and on and on.
I am hoping by the weekend that my symptoms have very kindly beggared off as I am doing a 12 hour stint at my work on Sunday. (Thinking of the ยฃยฃยฃ)

Along with the DVDs we have cleared a big pot of homemade lentil, guaranteed to make you feel that bit better for a little while. I’ve had to make a second pot for tomorrow!

Junior is at nursery, but I took him out today as he was quite poorly and up through the night. This along with Lolly doing the same, I literally seen every hour on the clock ๐Ÿ˜ฆ this makes for a grumpy mummy!

So I am kindly hoping and praying that we are all back to our normal happy selves soon.

Hope you are all well! X

Are You Ready?? The 2 week countdown

That’s us on the 2 week countdown to the Big Day ๐Ÿ™‚ And in our wee house we are so excited.
I have all our presents in and wrapped, sitting in the loft patiently awaiting Christmas Eve.
All that’s left to do is get the last of the Christmas dinner in, I’m doing that this week when the Mr gets paid. I have the Christmas dinner all planned :).

Broccoli and Stilton soup and/or homemade chicken liver pรขtรฉ to start.
3 bird roast with all the trimmings you can think of – pigs in blankets, my dads stuffing, roast tatties, lots of veg, tattie croquettes, gravy and much more ๐Ÿ™‚
Christmas pudding and Christmas cupcakes to finish. And not forgetting the cheese and biscuits later on.
Come 8 o’clock I will be on the couch stuffed to the brim!

And once the monsters are in bed, there will be copious amount of wine/beer etc drunk no doubt.
I won’t be drinking too much as I am one of those mental people you see leaving their house at 5am Boxing Day to hit the Next sale!
My sister thinks I have lost the plot!

My plan for this following week is to have everything in, ready for the big day. Next week is a busy festive fun filled week for us. I want to be able to enjoy the few days before Christmas Day.

Do you have much to do? What are your plans in this festive run up?
